Lefty

Kudos to Phil Mickelson who had the gumption to speak up about his ridiculous tax rate.

“If you add up all the federal and you look at the disability and the unemployment and the Social Security and the state, my tax rate’s 62, 63 percent. So I’ve got to make some decisions on what I’m going to do.

Or at least HAD the gumption until the liberal corporate media put their talons in him.  See we love it when Joe Athlete stands up and defends the pet liberal cause of the moment whether it be gay marriage, Barack Obama or against any type of foreign conflict. As long as these guys are not getting out of line and acting conservative its OK.

As any smart athlete with a solid PR team Mickelson backed down from his initial statement (begrudgingly I would hope). In response we were treated to this gem from ESPN with an absolutely absurd opening sentence: Phil Mickelson turned to his biggest blunder on the golf course to apologize for his latest mistake with his mouth.” Mickelson went on to say that “I think that it was insensitive to talk about it publicly to those people who are not able to find a job, that are struggling paycheck to paycheck. ... I shouldn't have taken advantage of the forum that I have as a professional golfer to try to ignite change over these issues.”

It's a hell of a place this country is in right now.  A successful guy at the top of a profession where very few make it to the top has the cojones to complain about an outright ridiculous top end tax rate the the knifes come out. Just when you think this country couldn't get any more PC we get Mickelson being shamed into backing down from a completely reasonable statement. Meanwhile California will continue to lose folks like Mickelson who decide to relocate to states like Texas and California where there's no state income tax.

There's the little poster child where this country is headed, beautiful and flawed California.  Good job initially speaking out Phil but too bad you had to back down.  I'm sure you had your reasons.  The average American agrees 100% with your initial statement.
